Papier mache globe 10 cm or 4" in diameter, the map hand-coloured in outline with the makers monogram PSM within a circle; with two metal pins at each pole; in original circular box the top with a hand coloured engraving of a father instructing and four children of the use of the globe; together with a printed leaf of instructions. The globe includes the continents marked out in different colour with all the main topographical and geographical features together with the routes of James Cooks second voyage, here date 1773 although the expedition ran from 1772-1776. The Globe also shows a route for the Northwest Passage probably garnered from the McClure expedition of 1850-1854 which did manage to traverse the route by using sledges although the globe shows a route as wide as the Mediterranean!
